What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us
— Rainer Maria Rilke
Since my original training in Core Process Psychotherapy – a contemplative, mindfulness-based approach, I have studied a variety of therapeutic models—including object relations, somatic psychotherapy, relational psychoanalysis, Gestalt group work, and social psychoanalysis. Drawing on these diverse perspectives allows me to adapt my approach to fit each individual’s unique circumstances.
I am a qualified and experienced psychotherapist, supervisor and psychotherapy trainer
I place the therapeutic relationship at the centre of my work and I offer a partnership model for working together in therapy rather than an ‘expert’ or ‘treatment’ model. I am interested in the social determinants of our psychological distress and the wider legacies of our collective experience.
A great deal of emotional pain relates to feeling disconnected from a sense of aliveness, experiencing early emotional wounds, or longing for a more complete sense of self. Sometimes we need support in navigating the inevitable traumas that life brings. Often, without our awareness, our past intrudes upon our present experience. As well as being a way to help us heal the pain and difficulty in our lives, psychotherapy aims to help us live our lives more fully, give us more freedom to choose how we relate to others and help us connect with what is true and authentic for us. When we are not caught up in our unconscious patterns, we have greater choice and flexibility in how we engage in life.
